Gendarmerie chief sergeant Okan Şimşek who was previously informed about the murder of Hrant Dink stated that the lieutenant Yıldız wanted them to cover up the issue when the troop commander was present.
Gendarmerie chief sergeant Okan Şimşek and Veysel Şahin testified for the claim that they did not act on the information that Hrant Dink, the editor-in-chief of Agos newspaper would be murdered.
These sergeants are said to be informed by the brother-in-law of Yasin Hayal. Okan Şimşek and Veysel Şahin will be tried for "negligence and abuse of duty" to be sentenced to jail from six months to two years.
They gave shocking statements which justified the claims stated by Coşkun İğci, brother-in-law of Yasin Hayal. Iğci had claimed: "I told all the details about the murder months before it happened. I did what I had to do; but they did not do what they should."
