Hamas hailed Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday for storming off the stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos the previous day over President Shimon Peres remarks over the Gaza assault.
"Hamas appreciates the courageous step by the Turkish prime minister, who in Davos, defended the victims of the criminal war of the Zionists against our women and children in Gaza," said Fawzi Barhoum, one of the group's spokesmen in the Strip, Israeli Jerusalam Post reported.
Erdogan's comments Gaza during the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday were also praised by Islamic Jihad as bold and honest, Palestinian news agency reported.
Following a defense of the assault on Gaza by Israeli President Shimon Peres, Erdogan said, "I find it very sad that people applaud what you said. You killed people. And I think that it is very wrong."
In a public statement Friday Islamic Jihad spokesman Dahoud Shehab said Palestinians appreciate how Erdogan stood by Palestine with such conviction, and thanked Turkey for caring for the Palestinian cause, Ma'an reported.
"We wished that Arab countries did the same thing and gave a similar reaction to what Turkey did," noted Shehab.
