The Pentagon has notified Congress of the possible sale to Israel of shore-hugging combat ships, spare parts, software and other goods and services worth as much as $1.9 billion.
The main contractors for the deal would be Lockheed Martin , General Dynamics and Raytheon, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, which oversees foreign arms sales, said on Wednesday.
Israel has requested permission to buy up to four littoral combat ships, used to patrol close to shore.
Congress has 30 days to block the sale but such actions are rare.
