PM Erdogan: My expression aims at Mr. Baykal
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his words 'this is a bullet fired at democracy' was aimed at the expressions of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal, on Wednesday.

On his arrival to Justice and Development (AK) Party HQ, PM Erdogan answered questions regarding the recent statement released earlier today by the Constitutional Court.

When reminded his words 'this is a bullet fired at democracy,' Erdogan said, "my expression is the one solely aimed at Mr. Baykal. I did not use it against the decision. Otherwise why would I say I respect the decision of the Constitutional Court at the beginning?"

Erdogan did not comment on discussions regarding whether President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will remain in office until a new president is elected.

"Authorized bodies will decide on that," he said.

Erdogan said members of AK Party are holding meetings with the CHP, the Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) and the True Path Party (DYP).

Stressing that they do not want to delay the date for general elections too much, PM Erdogan said a later date.
