"It is wrong to make a distinction such as within or outside borders. In fight against terrorism both regions should be treated the same way," said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday and added "but of course priority is to continue the fight against terrorism within the national borders."
PM Erdogan answered questions on his arrival to Justice and Development (AK) Party HQ in Ankara.
When replying to a question about his previous statement regarding the number of terrorists within and outside Turkish borders, Erdogan said that security forces have data regarding the numbers of terrorists.
He noted, "these are approximate numbers. The mentioned numbers are 1,500 within borders, and 3,500 outside borders."
After stating that it is wrong to make a distinction such as within borders or outside borders when terrorism is the issue, PM Erdogan said it is important to treat both regions in the same way.
Upon a question about the "border security", Erdogan said, "it is an important matter. Iraqi border has the priority. Our soldiers have taken the necessary measures there and they are continuing to do so."
In a previous statement on June 12th, PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan said "there are 500 terrorists in northern Iraq. There are 5,000 terrorists on mountains in Turkey. Has the fight with the 5,000 terrorists inside Turkey ended, that we should now be talking about northern Iraq?"
