Poland's President Lech Kaczynski was admitted to hospital Monday morning suffering from a viral infection which physicians said left him dehydrated, but was not life-threatening.
The 58-year-old Kaczynski broke a 38-degree fever accompanied by vomiting overnight, his personal physician told reporters in Warsaw Monday noon.
Physicians sent the president to hospital for routine tests Monday morning and expected him to be released later the same day. His life was in no danger, they stressed.
President Kaczynski cancelled plans to attend ceremonies marking the beginning of the school year Monday morning.
President Lech Kaczynski is the identical twin brother of Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, currently at the centre of a political storm over allegations he may have used wiretaps against political rivals.
