Dick Cheney, Vice-President of the United States, arrived in Ankara on Monday as part of his tour of the region while demonstrators shouted slogans against U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney during a protest.

One banner reads: "Murderer U.S. get out of Middle East".

Dick Cheney is accompanied by his spouse Lynne Cheney and daughter Elizabeth.



Security measures were tight at Ankara's Esenboga International Airport during Cheney's presence.

Cheney will meet Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit on Monday.

During Cheney's talks, issues such as the fight against terror, Iraq, Iran, military aid to Afghanistan, U.S. missile defense shield project and the Middle East will be discussed.

Cheney will proceed to Istanbul later on Monday after completing talks in Ankara.
