Rafsanjani to US: Acknowledge Iran-IAEA agreement
Iran's ex-president Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani called Friday on the United States to acknowledge the latest agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a mean to settle the nuclear dispute.

"A suitable move was made between Iran and the IAEA but the US and also France do not even acknowledge this agreement and still insist on the United Nations Security Council option," Rafsanjani said at the Friday prayer ceremony in Tehran.

Iran and the IAEA agreed last month on a plan of action which is supposed to remove all technical ambiguities surrounding Iran's nuclear projects and serve as the basis for a political settlement between Larijani and European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

The US in particular is pushing for harsher sanctions against Iran.

"Do not repeat your mistakes from the past and avail yourself of this agreement for reaching a suitable settlement )in the nuclear dispute)," Rafsanjani said addressing the US.

"Be sure that Islamic Iran does neither want to make atomic bombs nor attack any country but just wants nuclear technology for civil purposes and helping mankind," said the cleric.

Rafsanjani made a comeback to Iran's political scenery on Tuesday after his election as head of the Assembly of Experts, the country's highest religious body.
