Report: Iranian FM may 'step down'
Doubts over Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki's future deepened after a conservative daily linked to the country's supreme leader , Seyyed Ali Khamenei, published a fresh report claiming he is to step down.

Mottaki who on Wednesday was in Moscow for talks with Russian nuclear officials, is rumoured to have fallen out with Iran's hard-line president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

On Tuesday Adnkronos International (AKI) reported on a claim made by a pro-government website that Mottaki's departure was "imminent".

Diplomatic sources told AKI that if Mottaki left the cabinet it would probably happen before Ahmandinejad leaves for New York where he is set to speak before the UN General Assembly.

Mottaki's eventual departure would bring to eight the number of cabinet ministers to exit Ahmadinejad's government since it was formed in August 2006.
