Report: US high court leans conservative
The Washington Post said in Monday`s edition that the court was split on many of its decisions, and tended to rule slightly more in favor of conservative causes.

Several hot-button issues remain on the court`s docket, however; among them are issues pertaining to race in public schools, campaign finance ethics and the separation of church and state, the Post reported.

Thus far, the court has made important rulings protecting employers fighting claims of past discrimination, and placing limits on prisoner rights and death penalty appeals.

It also upheld the federal Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act.

With more than a dozen 5-4 decisions made this term, rumors have swirled that some justices don`t speak to each other unless they have to. But Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. maintains his colleagues remain consummate professionals regardless of how they personally feel about an issue.

'Nobody`s not speaking to each other,' he said, adding that it is 'very different than what people might think reading some of our opinions.'
