Barcelona football star Ronaldinho was granted Spanish nationality Monday.
The Brazilian playmaker, 27, was given Spanish citizenship at a short ceremony on Monday at the courthouse in the Barcelona suburb of Gava, where he has resided since joining Barca from Paris Saint-Germain in 2003.
All European clubs are keen for their foreign stars to acquire a European nationality, in order to free up another place in their squad for another non-EU player.
After the ceremony Ronaldinho - who played poorly in Sunday's 0-0 draw in Santander - left for training at the Camp Nou.
Later this week it is expected that Barca's Mexican teenager Giovani dos Santos will be granted Spanish citizenship, which will allow him to play in "La Liga."
Barca now have only two non-EU players in their squad, Africans Samuel Eto'o and Toure Yaya.
