Russia allows logistics for NATO Afghan attacks

Russia has agreed to a deal with NATO to allow the alliance to ship non-lethal freight across its territory to military forces in Afghanistan, diplomats said Friday.

The deal was struck as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepared to meet his NATO counterparts at a summit.

Sergei Ryabkov, chief of the Russian Foreign Ministry's department for European cooperation, said "We work in a pragmatic way and continue to cooperate with NATO in areas where our interests are close or coincide," he said. "Afghanistan is one such area."
