Russia's First Deputy Chief of the General Staff is planning to station another 20 S-400 Triumph missile defence systems across the country by 2015, Russian news agencies reported Tuesday.
"Such a system is so far unique in the world," Colonel General Yuri Baluyevsky was quoted as saying by the reports.
The first division was commissioned in Moscow Monday.
The system is able to destroy all classes of planes as well as ballistic missiles, according to the reports.
President Vladimir Putin congratulated the military authorities and engineers on their successful development of the system.
Russia in recent months has repeatedly demonstrated its military capacities during disputes with the United States over their missile defence plans in Central Europe, pointing out its security interests.
Moscow intends to prevent the stationing of a US missile-defence base in Poland and a radar system in the Czech Republic because it feels threatened.
