A nuclear-powered submarine of the Russian Pacific Fleet test launched a ballistic missile, the information and public relations service of the Russian Navy said.
"The strategic guided-missile undersea cruiser Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky of the Pacific Fleet on Tuesday launched a sea-based ballistic missile from the Pacific area targeting it at Chizha range in north Russia," the service was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.
"The missile's warhead hit the trial target at the range within the preset time," according to the report.
"The effective firing confirmed the readiness of the sea-based strategic nuclear forces and the reliability of the combat control system of the Navy," the service said.
