Rwanda jails former justice minister for genocide
A Rwandan court jailed former justice minister Agnes Ntamabyariro for life on Tuesday after finding her guilty of incitement during the 1994 genocide.
Ntamabyariro is first senior former government official to be tried by the authorities in Kigali over the killing of 800,000 minority ethnic Tutsis and politically moderate Hutus.
"She has been individually implicated in those crimes," Augustine Nkusi, Rwanda's national prosecutor, told reporters.
Most high profile suspects in the 100-day slaughter have been prosecuted by the U.N.'s International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, based in the northern Tanzanian town of Arusha.
Ntamabyariro was arrested in Zambia in 1997.
