S African gov't decries media 'sensationalism' on Zimbabwe
The government of South Africa on Thursday accused the media of "misleading and sensationalist" reporting on the political situation in Zimbabwe.

A spokesman for South African President Thabo Mbeki said that despite media reports there was progress being made on an agreement between the government of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and the Zimbabwe opposition that would lead to free and fair elections, according to the Sapa news agency.

These conclusions were expressed in a report by Mbeki presented behind closed doors at last week's Southern African Development Community summit in Lusaka, Zambia.
