At least eight people have died in a fire at a clinic in Siberia, according to the Interfax news agency.

The fire started in the psycho-neurological clinic in the town of Taiga in the southern region of Kemerovo, an emergency ministry spokesman was quoted as saying.

 

"Eight people were killed, six were injured as a result of the fire," according to preliminary details, he said.

 

Fire swept along the second floor and roof of the clinic of the two-storey brick house, officials said. They said that the fire was already under control.

 

At  the time of the fire, 235 people were in the building, including 15 staff.

 

The incident follows a fire which swept through a Moscow drug rehabilitation clinic early on Saturday.

 

Forty-five women died in the suspected arson attack.
