Senegal invites Madagascar rivals for talks

Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade invited the rival leaders in Madagascar's deepening political crisis to come to his West African country for peace negotiations, Wade's presidency said on Wednesday.

A presidency statement said the invitation followed requests for Wade to mediate from both Madagascar's President Marc Ravalomanana and opposition leader Andry Rajoelina.

Earlier on Wednesday, a rebel soldier in the Indian Ocean island declared himself head of the army, ousting a general who had given the feuding leaders a three-day ultimatum to end the weeks-old violent crisis, which has killed about 135 people.

I hope the Senegalese president recalls what was happening during 2002; how forceful and non-conciliatory was the current president of Madagascar. And now the people has realized that non of his promises were realized. Just to let you know some, he said that at least each household must have a small car (4L: an old Renauld car of 1970)but what happened he alone became the only richest man in the Island and leaves more than 80% of population under the poverty line! President Wade as mediator could not impact that talk! The fact is the Malagasy people is completely fed up of lies and demagogy. They need new start and deserve better life. So if this intention wants to help to let the current president in his place, I think it would not impact for the real good for the people.
