Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows Vista will probably be released in the first quarter of 2008, Microsoft says.
Just what collection of fixes and upgrades will be provided to handle tasks like eliminating errors in the operating system will depend on how the testing goes. That will commence in just a few weeks, when some 10,000 selected users receive a beta version of SP1. Unlike previous service packs, SP1 for Vista will be made available to all registered Vista users via the Windows Update function, Microsoft reports.
More than 60 million copies of Windows Vista have been sold since the beginning of this year. That means that the sales launch was significantly more successful that for the prior version, Windows XP.
