At least seven people were dead or missing after storms and a flood swept the area of the town Tecuci in eastern Romania, the Mediafax news agency reported Thursday.
Since Wednesday, two elderly women drowned when water submerged their homes, three other people were killed by lightning and yet another man and a woman were missing after a flash flood carried them away, the authorities said.
The authorities said that 780 people had to be brought to safety, while the 50,000 people min Tecuci and the surrounding area were without power. The town has been cut off from the world since a river rose above its banks Wednesday evening.
Floods have also hit villages in the area by swollen rivers after storms dropped up to 120 litres of water per metre square within a few hours.
