Seven migrants were reported missing after a boat capsized on Meric River in northwestern Turkey, a Turkish official said on Monday.

Turkish border patrol teams caught eight migrants late Sunday, governor of Edirne province said.

They told security forces that their boat had capsized on Meric River and seven of their friends had been missing after the accident, said Mustafa Buyuk.

Turkey is one of the major routes for migrants from east to west and Meric River is a natural border line between Turkey and Greece which is one of the first stops for migrants to reach European countries.

Governor Buyuk said that rescue teams were sent to the area to search for the missing aliens.

No other information was immediately available about the incident.
