"Some journalists told the whole world that I am already dead. I saw this on the television but you see me now. I think this is enough proof they are liars," President Abdullahi Yusuf said in Nairobi.

Conflicting reports surfaced when Yusuf was admitted to hospital Tuesday, with some hospital officials calling his condition "serious" and his spokesman playing down the situation, describing it as "a little thing."

Doctors had said he had bronchitis or a chest infection, but there was concern that he was being treated in connection with a 1996 liver transplant. He was set to travel to London for further check-ups.
