Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos congratulated Babacan for Turkey's becoming non-permanent member of UNSC, and said that Turkey signed a diplomatic success.

Turkish Foreign Minister li Babacan and Spanish Foreign Minister met in capital of Ankara.

Holding a joint press conference with Moratinos in Ankara, Babacan thanked Spain's support to Turkey during its efforts for non-permanent membership to UN Security Council.

Babacan said that Turkey and Spain were the two countries in the west and east of the Mediterranean which started Alliance of Civilization project. He added that more than 90 countries and international organizations became members of friendship group of the project.

Babacan said that the second meeting of Alliance of Civilizations would take place in Turkey in April, 2009.

Moratinos
Moratinos said that Turkey's presence in UNSC was a peace guarantee for the world.

Moratinos said that Turkey had always undertaken active role in its region, and added that Turkey's mediation in Israeli-Syrian talks as well as its efforts in Caucasus were some of the examples.

Noting that Spain was supporting Turkey's EU process, Moratinos said that everybody should exert efforts for Turkey to access EU.

Meanwhile, Moratinos was also received by Turkish President Abdullah Gul at Cankaya Presidential Palace. No statements were released regarding the meeting.
