Representatives from 170 countries worldwide are trying to promote their countries' tourism at the fair.

Spanish King visits Turkish stand in tourism fair

Turkey is being represented by travel agencies, hotels, touristic institutions and eight provinces at the 30th international tourism fair, FITUR, that opened its doors to visitors on Wednesday in Madrid, Spain.

Representatives from 170 countries worldwide are trying to promote their countries' tourism at the fair.

Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia participated in the inauguration of the Madrid fair and the two visited the Turkish stand.

The royal figures were welcomed to the Turkish stand by Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin who arrived in Madrid to attend an informal meeting of EU's justice ministers.

Turkey has allocated one million USD to promote her tourism in Spain in 2010.

Turkish provinces being promoted at the FITUR are Istanbul, Hatay, Mersin, Canakkale, Amasya, Samsun, Corum and Tokat.

FITUR will end on January 24.
