Strong 5.4-Richter undersea quake shakes Aegean Sea, no damage reported

strong undersea earthquake measuring 5.4 points on the Richter scale shook the central Aegean Sea late on Friday night, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said.

The quake's epicentre was located near the Cycladic island of Amorgos, 250 kilometres (155 miles) southeast of Athens, and the tremor was felt on many neighbouring islands, the institute said.

No damages or injuries were immediately reported from the quake, which struck at 20:53 GMT.

Greece is Europe's most quake-prone country, accounting for half the continent's seismic activity.
