A survey conducted by the Eurobarometer --the European Commission's survey organ-- showed Turkey on top of list of "countries that are set to join the EU in the near future."
The Eurobarometer survey titled "the EU's relations with its neighbours" based on the views of 27,000 participants inquired the five countries that were most likely to join the EU in the near future.
Turkey (%34), Croatia (%12), Romania and Bulgaria (%11) and Ukraine (%10) came out as the five countries that were most likely to join the EU in the near future.
While it was striking that there were many participants that did not know that Bulgaria and Romania already became EU members, the EU members like Poland and Greek Cypriot adminstration were listed as countries that were likely to join the EU in the near future.
Of all the participating people, 66 percent of the Dutch, 59 percent of the Swedes with 55 percent of the Danes, 51 percent of the Fins and the Greeks, and 50 percent of the Germans with 50 percent believe Turkey will join the EU in the near future.
The same survey reveals that 80 percent of the EU population seems unfamiliar with EU's neighbourhood policy.
