Syria FM to visit Lebanon to invite President Suleiman
Syrian Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Muallem will visit Beirut on Monday to deliver an invitation from President Bashar Al-Assad to his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman to visit Damascus, Kuwaiti news agency quoted an official source as saying on Sunday.

Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal had said in statements to the press yesterday that Damascus would be welcoming Suleiman in a manner befitting his stature, reiterating his country's commitment to its neighbor's sovereignty and unity.

Meanwhile, the local "Al-Watan" newspaper said that the visit of the Lebanese president would see discussions with Al-Assad over means to strengthen bilateral relations in the interest of the two peoples, as well as diplomatic representation.
It hoped that this visit would mark the launch of a new phase in bilateral relations.

The two leaders had met twice last week in Paris, the first as part of a quartet summit that brought them together with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Qatari Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and again on a bilateral level.

In Paris, Al-Assad reiterated his country's support for Lebanon and denied there were any obstacles in the way of exchanging diplomatic representation. Suleiman, on his part, said Beirut sought better relations with Damascus.
