The Syrian president received on Tuesday Turkish lawmakers.

Syria's President Bashar al-Asad had a meeting with Turkish lawmakers, headed by Murat Mercan--the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament, in Damascus.

During the meeting, al-Asad appreciated Turkish parliament's stance on war during U.S. occupation of Iraq, and its support to the Palestinian people.

Al-Asad underlined importance of ending the blockade against Gaza and meeting the vital needs of the Palestinian people.

Also, al-Asad said Turkish and Syrian parliament would assume a great role in implementing the agreements signed by the two countries to boost cooperation.

Turkish lawmaker Murat Mercan thanked Syria and al-Asad for their hospitality and assistance to the convoy that was heading for Gaza.

Visiting Syria as the guest of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Syrian Parliament, Murat Mercan is accompanied by other lawmakers Sukru Elekdag, Metin Ergun, Zeynep Dagi, Fevzi Sanverdi and Mehmet Cerci.

Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji al-Utri received the Turkish delegation on Monday, and they discussed ways to further improve relations.

Turkish lawmakers also met Syrian Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Abrash.

The delegation is expected to complete their talks in Damascus and proceed to Aleppo later on Tuesday.
