Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat expressed hope on Tuesday that a round of intensified talks with Greek Cypriot leader would yield a good result.

Talat and Greek Cypriot administration's leader Demetris Christofias launched the first round of intensified talks on Monday aimed at reaching peace deal this year to reunify the divided island.

Talat said today's meeting discussed administration and power sharing, adding that they would continue to talks the same issue on Wednesday.

"Administration and power sharing is the heart of the Cyprus problem and we would have taken a huge step toward settlement if we could make a serious progress on this issue. Our hope is that we can reach to a good point," Talat told reporters.

The Turkish Cypriot president said the two leaders also planned to discuss issues related to the European Union and economy.

Talat and Christofias are set to gather again on tomorrow for the last meeting of the first round of intensified talks. The second round of the talks are scheduled for December 25, 26, and 27.
