Talat, Papadopoulos to meet Wednesday

For the first time since July 8th, 2006, President Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos will come together in a meeting on Wednesday (tomorrow).

For the first time since July 8th, 2006, President Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos will come together in a meeting on Wednesday (tomorrow).

The meeting will begin at 4:00 p.m. at UN buffer zone in Lefkosa. Michael Moller, UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Cyprus, will also join Talat and Papadopoulos at the meeting which will take place at Moller's residence.

The latest meeting of the two leaders was held on July 8th, 2006 when Ibrahim Gambari, UN Under-Secretary-General for Dept. of Political Affairs, visited the island.

On the other hand, Michael Moller paid a visit to President Talat on Tuesday prior to the meeting.

Talat's spokesman Hasan Ercakica said that Moller and Talat discussed technical details about the meeting. Ercakica also said the meeting will have an open agenda, noting that Turkish side aims to start comprehensive negotiations with Greek Cypriots.
