Tehran on Friday rejected US criticism of an agreement reached between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on solving outstanding issues regarding Iran's nuclear programme.
The news network Khabar quoted Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini as saying that while most of the countries welcomed the agreement, the US adopted a critical approach which would not be constructive for the implementation of the new plan.
The spokesman called on the US not only to respect the Iran-IAEA plan of action but also accept other realities such as Iran's right to pursue nuclear technology in line with the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Although welcoming the progress, US Ambassador Gregory Schulte however said Wednesday the US understood that there were limitations to the plan, including Iran's continued refusal to implement the Additional Protocol, which grants far- reaching inspection rights to the UN nuclear watchdog.
"Cooperation that is partial, conditional, and only promised in the future is not enough," Schulte said, urging Iran to "stop trying to manipulate the IAEA" and to start cooperating fully and unconditionally.
