Emergency crews have rescued three workers who were trapped underground due to a subsidence in Mustafakemalpasa town of north-western province of Bursa on Thursday.

The explosion also killed six workers, broadcasters reported on Friday.

Further efforts are underway in Mustafakemalpasa to rescue at least 12 more workers trapped underground at a depth of 220 metres.

Rescued workers are in good health condition, officials said.

"We are very sad about this terrible accident. We have not lost our hope. We are trying to reach them," Labour Minister Omer Dincer said.

The explosion occurred at a depth of around 250-350 metres, causing the mine to cave in and a fire to break out.

An opposition MP, Abdullah Ozer said the other 13 were also feared dead.
