Turk Cyprus FM says Greeks need not have quarrels with Turkey
Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ferdi Sabit Soyer, said Thursday the Greek Cypriot leadership need not have quarrels with Turkey but need to have peace with the Turkish Cypriots based on equality.

Prime Minister Soyer received Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and an accompanying delegation in Lefkosa on Thursday.

Turkey has always supported the Turkish Cypriots and we are not in a position not to take into consideration Turkey's financial and ethical support, Soyer stressed.

The President of TRNC Mehmet Ali Talat continues on with Cyprus negotiations by being loyal to a joint policy with Turkey, Soyer said.

We wish for a federal solution in Cyprus based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal and politically equal structure, Soyer noted.

I hope that the negotiations process will contribute to stability and peace of the region, Turkish-Greek relations and European democratic principles, Soyer said.

Turkey's support of the negotiations process is very crucial, Soyer said.

Calling on the political leadership of the Greek Cypriots, Soyer said that the Greek Cypriots need to establish peace with the Turkish Cypriots.

They have an obligation to contribute to the development of Turkish-Greek relations, Soyer said.

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriots became a member of the European Union in an unjust manner, Soyer said that his government's aim is to facilitate equal representation of Turkish Cypriots in EU organs.

Ali Babacan, on his part, said that the TRNC is a very special location for Turkey.

Cyprus is an important matter for us, Babacan said.

During our talks in the TRNC, we will go over the negotiations process and the bilateral relations, Babacan said.

2009 is a prominent year for Cyprus and we support the negotiations process, Babacan said.

Turkey has always supported the Turkish Cypriots and this support will continue, Babacan said.

We are making efforts so that the unjust treatment and isolation the Turkish Cypriots face are ended, Babacan also said.

Meanwhile, The Turkish prime minister met Turkish Cypriot parliament speaker on Thursday.

Turkey's Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan had almost one-hour meeting with Parliament Speaker Fatma Ekenoglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

The meeting at the Prime Ministry building was behind closed doors.

Ekenoglu arrived in Turkey earlier on Thursday. She is scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with Turkey's Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan on Friday.
