Turkey's Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim criticised Bulgaria which began charging transit fees from Turkish truck drivers passing through its territories.
Yildirim said until recently Bulgaria did not charge any fees for lorries passing through its borders under an agreement with Turkey but it decided unilaterally to repeal the agreement after its accession to the EU.
Yildirim said around 250,000 lorries from Turkey carried goods between Europe and Turkey and said this corresponded to nearly 25 percent of Turkey's total highway transportation.
He said Bulgaria started charging 83 euros per truck, which this was unacceptable, and said Turkish Foreign Ministry launched initiatives for removal of the fees.
