Turkey asks France to rise Turkology departments at universities

A delegation of Turkish Parliamentary Human Rights Inquiry Commission requested French authorities to increase number of Turkology departments at universities.

The delegation led by Zafer Uskul of the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party held a series of talks in the cities of Lyon, Strasbourg and Paris in the last seven days.

Uskul said at a news conference at the Turkish Embassy in Paris, "our visit aimed at listening to problems of Turkish people living in France and trying to resolve those problems. One of those problems is regarded with education. We requested French authorities to increase number of Turkology departments at universities."

"Crime rate is quite lower among Turkish people than the other French citizens of foreign descents. For instance, only 9 out of 842 inmates in prison in Lyon are Turkish," he said.

The delegation will pay a similar visit to Belgium on September 21.
