After the recent global rise in price of iron and steel goods, exports by Turkish iron and steel sector climbed 30 percent to 12.5 billion USD in 2007.

Turkey has become the 11th biggest producer of raw steel with an annual output of 25.8 million tons in 2007.

According to a report released by the Foreign Trade Undersecretariat on Turkish iron and steel sector, Turkey's production of raw steel accounted for 2 percent of total production in the world. Accordingly, Turkey became the country making the biggest increase in its production of raw steel behind the People's Republic of China.

The sector has a 11.6 percent share in Turkey's total exports. After the recent global rise in price of iron and steel goods, exports by Turkish iron and steel sector climbed 30 percent to 12.5 billion USD in 2007.

The People's Republic of China, Japan and the United States topped the list of raw steel producing 15 nations. Turkey was ranked 11th in the list. These 15 countries and their raw steel production are as follows:
