Turkey's foreign minister said on Tuesday that Turkey, thanks to effective policies it pursued, started to become a center for diplomatic activities to solve disputes in the region.
Speaking at a conference in Ankara, Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said that Turkey exerted a series of proactive efforts during Israeli-Palestinian talks and also to overcome crisis in Lebanon, develop Pakistani-Afghan dialogue, and resume talks between Syria and Israel.
"Turkey, on countless occasions, proved that it was a reliable partner for regional countries," he said.
Regarding Cyprus process, Babacan said that settlement of security and prosperity of Turkish Cypriots and protection of balance and stability in East Mediterranean were two main strategic targets of Turkey's Cyprus policy.
Babacan said that if Turkey was elected as member to UN Security Council, it would support UN reform process and exert efforts to make UN more effective in international area. He added that Turkey would fulfill all its responsibilities if it became a member to the Council.
Babacan said that Turkey's contributions to NATO and European Security & Defence Policy would continue in security area. He added that Turkey attached importance to deepen the cooperation between NATO and the EU.
