Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan said on Thursday that Turkey maintained its assertion to become a developed, prosperous and constructive country and a symbol of confidence with the Lausanne Peace Treaty.
Releasing a statement on the 85th anniversary of the signing of Lausanne Peace Treaty, Toptan said the Treaty was the formal recognition of Turkey's independence which it gained through its national struggle, its sovereignty rights and its national borders.
Toptan said the Treaty was the most important document arranging sovereignty rights of Turkey in international arena since World War I.
"Turkey's sovereignty rights and national borders reached to its current shape to a great extend with the Treaty. Our territorial integrity, political and economic rights were taken under guarantee and Turkish Republic was accepted as an independent and sovereign country by the whole world," Toptan said in the message.
