Those who lost their lives in the massive earthquake in northwestern Turkey have been commemorated on the 9th anniversary of the disaster.
People left flowers on spots, once the home of their beloved ones.
Although nine years have elapsed since the earthquake, its memories are still fresh in our minds, quake-survivors said.
The 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Marmara region, Turkey's industrial and commercial heartland, at 3:02 a.m. on August 17th, 1999. The quake centered in Golcuk town of Kocaeli lasted for about 45 seconds and killed more than 17 thousand people. Tens of thousands of others were left homeless in the quake.
