Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan met Thursday his Latvian counterpart Maris Riekstins as part of his talks in capital Riga.
Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting Babacan expressed gratitude for Latvian support for Turkey's European Union membership bid, adding that the two countries shared similar views on a number of international and regional issues.
Babacan said EU membership constituted "a strategic goal" for Turkey, adding that his country would continue EU reforms despite efforts by certain countries to slowdown the membership process.
The Turkish foreign minister also said Turkey fully supported peace talks between Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders aimed at reunifying the divided Mediterranean island.
Riekstins said on his part that Latvia was ready to share its experiences regarding the EU accession, reiterating his country support for Turkey's EU membership.
