Two draft laws about modernization of railways in Turkey have been prepared, officials said on Tuesday.
Turkish Transportation Ministry prepared draft laws after studying EU acquis about railways. These bills are expected to be debated at the Turkish parliament in October 2008 and enacted by the end of this year.
The bills foresee that Turkish State Railways (TCDD) would construct railways and be responsible for repair and maintenance of railways.
Railway Transportation Corp. will be responsible for passenger and cargo transportation.
The draft laws say that Railway Transportation Directorate General would be established to issue licenses and supervise them.
