The president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will hold talks with the UN Secretary General in the German capital, Berlin next week.
President Mehmet Ali Talat of the TRNC and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon would discuss the latest developments about the Cyprus issue during their meeting, officials said on Thursday.
After holding talks with Ban Ki-moon on July 15th, Talat will return to the TRNC.
Spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Burak Ozugergin, said Thursday they expected that a solution in Cyprus would also include continuation of Turkey's active guaranty.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Ozugergin said that the year 2008 offered an opportunity to find a comprehensive solution in Cyprus.
"We wish for a just, comprehensive and permanent solution in Cyprus based on the good will mission of the UN Secretary General, a bi-communal and bi-zonal solution which gives the two sides political equality," Ozugergin said.
