Turkey has expectations from Iraqi gov't, says minister

Spokesperson of the Turkish Government and Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek said Monday that Turkey had expectations and demands from the central government of Iraq.

"We wish for a closer cooperation and hope that promises made do not remain in words,"Cicek told reporters after Monday's Council of Ministers meeting.

In response to a question on the visit of a delegation from the Turkish Foreign Ministry with Massoud Barzani, the head of the regional administration in the north of Iraq, on Tuesday, Cicek said that "as most terrorist acts stem from north of Iraq, we have demands and expectations from the central government of Iraq. Such terrorist acts harm our relations with Iraq and have a negative impact on the stability of the region. Turkey wants to see measures not only in words but also action."

In regard to a question on the Council of Ministers meetings to be held every 15 days, Cicek said, "Mr. Prime Minister would hold meetings on the Turkish economy and terror in weeks when the Council of Ministers meeting will not take place."
