Turkey inaugurates renovated border crossing

Turkish executives inaugurated Sunday the renovated Cilvegozu border crossing in Reyhanli town of southern province of Hatay.

Cilvegozu border pass is one of the seven passes that connect Turkey with Syria. Turkey and Syria has a border of 877 kilometers.

"After the renovation, the Cilvegozu border crossing has the technological facilities to prevent illicit trafficking," State Minister & Deputy PM Hayati Yazici said during the inauguration ceremony in which Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan also participated.

The modernization project cost about 25 million USD. Before the renovation, the border crossing could serve 250,000 vehicles and 1 million passengers p.a.. Now, it is capable of serving 1 million vehicles and 3 million passengers.
