"Turkey will continue contributing to global peace with capabilities it owned and values it advocated," Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Thursday.
In a foreword he wrote for Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc's book "Parliamentary Diplomacy in the 22nd Legislative Term", Gul said, "Turkey takes place in a strategic position in which the East meets with the West, and the North meets with the South."
"Many of problems concerning international community emerge in the adjacent areas. Those problems jeopardize not only the regional security and stability but also the global peace. In such a geography, Turkey is a power safeguarding security, stability and prosperity. The word of 'power' should not be reduced to military capabilities," he said.
"Turkey's absorbing universal values such as democracy, human rights, rule of law and transparency within its own cultural values, carried it into a unique position and increased Turkey's influence in a vast geography. It is essential to sustain Turkey's development for our own national benefits. Our targets, geographical position, cultural values and historical ties entail us to pursue a multi-dimensional foreign policy," Gul added.
