Turkey, Lebanon expected to sign 53 deals during PM's July visit

The Turkish environment minister said on Tuesday that Turkey and Lebanon would sign 53 agreements in July.

Turkey's Environment and Forestry Minister Veysel Eroglu said that Turkey was planning to sign 53 memoranda of understanding with Lebanon when Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the country in July.

"We have opened many areas including airports, highways, bridges, dams, electricity generation and irrigation facilities to the private sector, and expect Lebanese businessmen to boost cooperation and efforts in these areas," Eroglu said during a working luncheon in honor of Lebanese Prime Minister Sa'ad al-Din al-Hariri in Istanbul.

Eroglu also said Turkish and Lebanese businessmen should assess business and investment potential in each other's countries.

Lebanese Prime Minister al-Hariri arrived in Ankara on Sunday on a state visit. Turkey and Lebanon signed six agreements, including an arrangement envisaging removal of visa requirements reciprocally and agreements on areas of health, agriculture, military cooperation, transportation and education.

Al-Hariri met Turkish Premier Erdogan, Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin, and was received by President Abdullah Gul in Ankara.
