Turkey may 'send Tatar Diaspora back Crimea due to visa abolition'

Pro-Russian media in Ukraine speculated Turkey's proposition to abolish visas with Ukraine, Crimean news agency (QHA) said.

The most widespread opinion is that Turkey proposed Ukraine to abolish two-way visa in order Crimea could be as Crimean Tatar republic, particularly, to influence to the Crimean Tatars' demography, QHA said.

According to some mass media, Turkey could send representatives of the Crimean Tatar Diaspora back Crimea just due to visa abolition. And it would be external inflow to make the demography situation among the formerly deported people better which is also at the present close to the assimilation.

The Crimean Tatars are Turkic people who inhabited the Crimean peninsula, now a part of Ukraine, for over seven centuries. They faced mass deportation by Russia two times.

Russia attacked Ottoman-rule land, devastating much of the economic and social infrastructure of Crimea. Russia forced the Crimean Tatars flee from their homeland en masse. Crimean Tatars also faced persecution and land expropriations. Those who survived the trip, famine and disease, resettled in Dobruja, Anatolia, and other parts of the Ottoman Empire.

Also, during World War II, the entire Tatar population in Crimea fell victims to Stalin's oppressive policies. In 1944 they were unjustly accused of being Nazi collaborators and deported en masse to Central Asia and other lands of the Soviet Union.
