Turkey plans more bank privatization

Turkish economy minister has said the government was planning to include more state-run banks in its privatization portfolio in 2010.

Ali Babacan said in press meeting on Thursday that shares of the country's Ziraat Bankasi would be issued to public offering for the first time.

The Turkish economy minister said the share of the private holders in Vakiflar Bankasi and Halk Bankasi would be raised as well from a current 25 percent for each bank.

Babacan did not elaborate when the privatizations would take place.

"We are working on the timing and the order of these privatization with an eye to prevent them from losing their deserved values. Also, we are closely monitoring developments in the global banking sector," Babacan said.
