ERDOGAN: "CANKAYA IS OURS"
Responding to criticisms over Abdullah Gul's candidacy for the president, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "Cankaya Presidential Palace belongs to 70 million of Turkish nation."
SNOW ON ERCIYES IN AUGUST
There was snowfall at 3.200 meters altitude on Mount Erciyes in central city of Kayseri on Saturday. Snow thickness has reached 5 centimeters in the region.
SPECIAL TEAMS CONDUCT OPERATIONS AGAINST TERRORIST ORGANIZATION
Special teams that have been sent to the southeastern part of the country conduct successful operations against terrorist organization. 10 members of terrorist organization PKK died in operations in southeastern city of Sirnak.
TUBITAK PLACES DEVICES TRACKING POTENTIAL QUAKE AT HOT SPRINGS
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) have placed GPS (Global Positioning System) at hot springs. The system more accurately track quake potential in some regions.
TURKISH TROOPS WILL REMAIN IN ISLAND UNTIL A SOLUTION IS REACHED, TALAT
President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Mehmet Ali Talat indicated on Saturday that "Turkish troops will remain in the island until a solution is reached. The issue of Turkish military presence in Cyprus can not be discussed until a solution is found in Cyprus. The calls made by Greek Cypriots against Turkish military presence in Cyprus are meaningless".
TURKISH RED CRESCENT SENDS 200 TONNES OF AID TO IRAQ
Turkish Red Crescent sent 200 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Iraq. Food items, water, medication and cleaning materials have been distributed to 7,000 Iraqis in various cities. The Red Crescent aid is worth close to 1 million USD.
AK PARTY DISCUSSION IN IRAN
The reformist Islamic Participation Front in Iran has issued a statement and said that "the success of Turkish Justice and Development (AK) Party shows that Islam and a secular system can walk hand in hand. A civilian Islamic regime can be established in Iran by looking at the AK Party example". The front's statement received harsh criticisms from conservatives in Iran.
11 FIRES IN 1 DAY
Forest fires were seen in 11 Turkish locations on Saturday: Manavgat, Bodrum, Marmaris, Bursa, Dalaman, Ankara, Istanbul, Tekirdag, Karabuk, Balikesir and Edirne. Hundreds of hectares of forests burned in these locations. One person died in Manavgat due to fire.
TURKEY'S POLICY ON NORTH OF IRAQ IS TIED TO U.S.
While Iran is bombing PKK shells in north of Iraq, the Justice and Development (AK) Party's inability to begin an operation in north of Iraq is receiving harsh criticisms from many segments of the Turkish society. Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Sukru Elekdag described AK Party's stance on north of Iraq as 'fearful'.
In a report published, the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) indicated that one out of every two employed people is unregistered. "In the past five years, half of all employed people in Turkey has been unregistered," told ATO's report.
MASSA SECURES POLE POSITION
Ferrari's Felipe Massa, who won last year's Turkish Formula One Grand Prix, ranked the first in qualifying race of F1 in Istanbul yesterday. Massa put his Ferrari on pole position for the Turkish Grand Prix. The race will kick off at Istanbul Park Circuit at 3:00 p.m. today.
ABEYLEGESSE WINS SILVER MEDAL
Turkey's national athlete Elvan Abeylegesse has placed second in the 10,000 meters race and won a silver medal at the 11th World Athletics Championship in Osaka, Japan. Elvan finished the race with a time of 31 minutes, 59.40 seconds.
CANKAYA IS STRONGHOLD OF 70 MILLION, ERDOGAN
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated, "which stronghold fell? Who owns Cankaya (Presidential Palace)?" Erdogan stressed, "Cankaya does not belong to him or her or any distinguished group. Cankaya is ours and it belongs to 70 million of Turkish people."

ERDOGAN ANGRY AT MEDIA, AGAIN
After inviting daily Hurriyet columnist Bekir Coskun to end his Turkish citizenship a few days ago, Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed anger at another columnist on Saturday. "Unfortunately, there are still individuals who talk about regime clashes. There are individuals who are so disrespectful as to claim that another stronghold (regarding Turkish presidency) has fallen," told Erdogan.
GUL: "I WOULD APPLY TO THE COURT"
Abdullah Gul, who is expected to be elected the president on Tuesday, responded to a claim that "Gul steps up to presidency with a shield of immunity." He said, "I do not need it. I will go to trial if necessary."
GULER: "WE HAVE FOUND OIL"
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler said, "the reserves in the Black Sea are enough for us." Guler indicated, "we have found a new oil reserve offshore Akcakoca. There are both oil and natural gas. The oil quality is fine."
