Turkey promotes culturally-important cities in Spain

Turkey is promoting its touristic and cultural heritage in an international fair in Spain.
Turkey joins the 29th International Tourism Fair in the Spanish capital of Madrid with representatives of 39 travel agencies and some hotels, and promotes its touristic, historical and cultural sites.
Turkey is highlighting Istanbul as one of the cultural capitals of Europe for 2010, and introducing new destinations like Kahramanmaras and Erzurum to the Spanish people.
"This is the first time Turkey is promoting some of its culturally-important cities like Kahramanmaras and Erzurum in a tourism fair in Europe," Cumhur Guven Tasbasi, the director general of promotion department of the Turkish Culture & Tourism Ministry, told AA correspondent.
Tasbasi said that 340,000 Spanish people visited Turkey in 2008, and told the AA that the Spanish were mainly visiting Turkey for cultural tourism.
"We are attaching importance to Spanish market, and we will speed up our promotion campaigns in Spain," he also said.
In its stand, Turkey exhibits examples of its calligraphy, glassware, jewelry; and serves its food including Maras ice-cream, baklava (dessert), and Turkish coffee.
The fair will stay open till Sunday.
